Clinical Trial Ontario’s Year in Review: A Bold Vision for a Better Clinical Trials Environment

Ontario has long been an attractive jurisdiction for conducting high-quality clinical trials. However, we must do more to strengthen our status as a competitive jurisdiction internationally. As you will see in the 2023-2024 Annual Report, Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO) is taking action with a bold new vision for a better clinical trials environment.

CTO’s Ontario Leadership Table for Clinical Trials, comprised of hospital and industry leaders, is envisioning the future and implementing changes to bring more trial opportunities to Ontario and new therapies to patients as quickly as possible by shortening clinical trial activation times and reducing the effort required to execute the activation process. CTO Stream, our flagship program that allows a single ethics review for multi-site clinical trials, has cemented its place in Ontario’s clinical trials ecosystem and continues to grow. And our work with patient groups and health charities is making it easier for patients and the public to engage with clinical trials.
