Heather Douglas lives in Ottawa. Now retired, she previously worked as a research analyst at an investment bank, which took her travelling around the world. She has a MS in Mineral Economics and BScH in Geology. She was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2004 and metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in 2009. It has been a continuous string of treatments since then, including participation in in seven clinical trials. Her patient advocacy is influenced by her sister who died of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), by friends who are living with MBC, and by her own experience. A member of the College of Lived Experience since inception, her other advocacy activities have included being a Patient-Survivor-Caregiver reviewer with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Patients Involved in Cancer Research Program (PIP) at the 2017 Canadian Cancer Research Conference, and fundraising with the MBC teams at the CIBC Run for the Cure.
